ADNEC – a portrait of the biggest exhibition venue in the Middle East

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre is the largest exhibition venue in the Middle East. ADNEC was established in August 2005 under a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. The objective was to develop a venue that would replace the old Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Center and attract more meetings, incentives, conferences and events into the emirate. It embraced the broader goal of enhancing Abu Dhabi’s image as a business, leisure and lifestyle destination.

Highlights of IDEX 2011 Opening ceremony

Newzglobe called it ‘a spectacular air and land demonstration’, The National newspaper described it as a ‘dramatic hostage-rescue operation’ while Army Recognition praised it ‘a stunning opening ceremony’.

We’ve put together a number of photos to showcase the highlights of the IDEX 2011 opening ceremony that took place at ADNEC Abu Dhabi on February 20th, 2011.

In fact, the show was so impressive that the 30-minute action-packed performance was extended for public viewing over the entire IDEX exhibition period of 5 days!

The UAE military band kicked off the opening ceremony of the 10th edition of IDEX in honor of the UAE Armed Forces.

The UAE SOC together with the air force simulated a hostage-rescue operation at sea, utilizing a Chinook, Fennecs and RHIBS for the display.

Following the captivating ship storm, the SOC of the UAE Armed Forces showcased a building storm scenario on the mobility track.

Over 50 vehicles of the UAE Armed Forces punched out in a military battle formation, rolling across the 200 m custom-designed mobility track, overcoming obstacles, water pools and ramps.

Continuous interaction between land and air force and explosion simulations added to the realistic scenario effect.

Skydiving counts among any army’s core disciplines, and was also part of IDEX 2011 opening ceremony. For the first time ever in the world, a RXW formation was shown to a public audience, with breathtaking base deployment as low as 300 ft!

Quads, FMX, motorcross and trial bikes followed the wingsuit performance, and had the audience WOW to their amazing jumps! A total of 23 riders performed tricks on the mobility track, making it the largest stunt bike group that ever displayed at the same time!

As an international event, four Edinburgh military tattoo recognized bands participated in the celebration, and performed for the Royal Family and VIP audience of 3000 viewers their unique cultural heritage.

The show ended with a grand finale, over 50 international flags, a specially composed musical piece played by all 4 international bands and a spectacular Mirage flypast.

See you 2013!

Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010

Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010 – the third edition of the six-week family festival – was significantly expanded by ADTA to encompass an awesome entertainment line-up taking in eight venues across the UAE capital and Al Ain – the first time the festival reached out to the emirate’s Eastern Region heritage heartland.

Building on the success of the first two editions, Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010 broke new-ground as it looked to attract more GCC visitors to the emirate and deliver greater benefits to its tourism sector.

Like its previous years, the magnitude of the summer festival was significant. Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010 lasted for 6 weeks (23rd June to 4th August). It involved a total of 110 international performers, 85 minders and 24 event management staff. Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010 proved to be as popular as its predecessors, attracting a total of 160,000 guests.

Collect some impressions in our video here: Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010

In SIAD, there were indigenous cultural performances, multi-dimensional entertainment experiences, ‘live’ cooking classes, competitions and workshops. And on top of the summer activities, we decided to increase the number of main shows. Summer in Abu Dhabi 2010 saw not one but three main shows! The first was Lord of the Dance, a musical based on an Irish folklore. The second was Fantasy on Ice, a whimsical production that skillfully combined figure skating and illusions. The third was the Big Apple Circus which is international renowned circus based in New York.
